The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)

This topic applies to only the Windows version of RaceRender

If you encounter a "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)" error when attempting to start RaceRender, this indicates that the Microsoft .NET 3.0 framework is either not installed, or is corrupt, on your system. RaceRender, along with many other applications, relies on this piece of Windows to operate. Note that .NET 4.0 and newer versions may not be backwards compatible, so you'll want to to have .NET 3.0 or 3.5 installed alongside it.

Windows XP users: When this happens on Windows XP, the .NET 3.0 framework is most likely just not installed, so you'll need to get it from Microsoft, as noted in RaceRender's system requirements. See the download link at the end of this text.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 users: The needed .NET 3.0 framework comes as part of your operating system, so this error would seem to point to a system problem that can affect far more than just this application. A starting point would be to try reinstalling the framework from Microsoft, but you may have a bigger problem that needs you to reinstall Windows entirely. See the download link at the end of this text.

Windows 8 users: When you first start RaceRender after installation, Windows 8 should automatically prompt you to install the needed .NET framework, if it is not already on your system. Please allow it to install, then launch RaceRender again after it is complete. You may also be able to install it by going to the Control Panel, then select "Programs and Features", click the "Turn Windows features on or off" link on the left, and enable ".NET Framework 3.5".
