Why Installing QuickTime Can Help (Windows version)

Postby RaceRender LLC » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:27 pm

This topic applies to only the Windows version of RaceRender, and only the 32-bit version is affected. QuickTime enhancement is not available when using the 64-bit version of RaceRender for Windows.

Installing Apple's free QuickTime 7 Player for Windows will allow RaceRender to make use of many of its media decoders, thereby boosting the video, audio, and image format support that you experience in RaceRender. Most media files that work correctly in the QuickTime Player can also be used in RaceRender.

Users of Windows XP and Vista will almost always need this, but it's often optional on Windows 7 and 8.

To get this benefit, you only need to have the free QuickTime Player installed on your computer... You do not have to use it to play your videos, you don't need to have it running, and you can probably also disable its startup processes if you wish. RaceRender, and most other QuickTime-enabled applications, can make use of the QuickTime API libraries that are installed when you have it on your computer. Any "Lite" versions of QuickTime are the result of third party modifications, so you'll have to be on your own with those... They are not tested with RaceRender, have been reported to cause crashes, and of course can't be officially supported for multiple reasons.

QuickTime Player for Windows can be downloaded for free from Apple: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
