64-bit vs 32-bit Versions of RaceRender

Postby RaceRender LLC » Mon Sep 09, 2013 12:45 am

This topic applies only to the Windows version of RaceRender. The Mac version is 64-bit.

Starting with RaceRender 2.9.4 for Windows, a 64-bit version is now also included. The standard version of RaceRender is 32-bit and will continue to work on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows.

If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or 8, you now also have the option of using the 64-bit version of RaceRender, which will be listed in your Start Menu as "RaceRender 3 (64-bit)". The 32-bit version is still simply listed as "RaceRender 3".

Benefits of the 64-bit Version
- It can make use of more system memory, which may be needed for some large RaceRender projects
- May have better stability and reliability in some cases (particularly with very large projects)
- Rendering can be somewhat faster

Limitations of the 64-bit Version
- Requires a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows 8
- May have less media support (no QuickTime library for 64-bit, different AVI codecs, etc.)

As noted above, media support differs in the 64-bit version of RaceRender, because it relies on 64-bit media interfaces and codecs. As a result, some media files that work with the 32-bit version of RaceRender may not work with the 64-bit version, and possibly vice-versa. However, common formats like MPEG-4, H.264, and Windows Media should still have good support on both versions.

If you have problems with media compatibility, or other issues, in RaceRender 64-bit, then please give the 32-bit version a try. Similarly, if you have issues in the 32-bit version of RaceRender, you may want to give the 64-bit version a try, assuming that your system supports it.
