Transmission Gear Indicator Issues & Options

Postby RaceRender LLC » Thu Jul 18, 2013 12:23 am

There are now two ways to display the current transmission gear number with RaceRender:

1) When your data file contains a "Gear" or similar data channel that contains the current gear number, RaceRender can easily display that. This is the preferred method but is not available from all data systems.

2) As of RaceRender 2.9.2, the current gear number will be automatically estimated if your data file does not contain actual gear information, but it does contain both engine RPM and vehicle speed. However, results from this method will vary (among other things, GPS'es that have a lag in their speed reading will cause issues). It is recommended that the Vehicle Speed selection be set to use an OBD-2 speed measurement, or other direct speed measurement, rather than GPS. Please see the the "Gear Number Estimation" section of RaceRender's Datalogger documentation.
